Wirehaired Dachshund Breed Standard

Teckelgarth Dachshunds

I can remember my Mother and I choosing our first Dachshund, a red Miniature Smooth Dachshund bitch call Minnehaha, I could only have been about 4 years old. Typical Mini Smooth, character 10 times her bodyweight, very protective of the family and property. We were so keen to have a litter from her, but it just didn't happen despite trying on several occasions. My mother found a breeder of Standard Smooths in Malvern, and eventually ended up with 2 Std Smooths from there, bred a litter and kept 2 more.

Whilst at University I met a Wire Haired Dachshund called Robbie, a Watermans wire, son of Krystona Augustus, I believe. I was truly smitten, and as soon I had my own home I wanted a Wire to share it with me. I found a young Silvae bitch S. Larch, and she became my foundation bitch. Forty years later I still have Std Wires, bred Std Smooths for several years, and may have other varieties in the future.

Sadly I don't have many chances to show the Wires, trying to show them and the Otterhounds can be a logistical nightmare, but last year
